        Cwpan Ceredigion - Bargod Rangers 0 v 1 Maesglas

Maesglas may have won this one just by the one goal but on reflection it could have been more. Same old same old as they say, but the chances which were created did not punish the home side, saying that though  it was still a very hard earned win after coming off three defeats on the bounce. Bargod gave a very good account of themselves after their work man like performance.

Blues were on top of this game for long periods, but Bargod were quick on the break and on the day having similar problems as Maesglas when it came to finishing of what they created. Blues keeper Keen had a rather quiet afternoon where as the young Bargod shot stopper Stuart Grant had a busy but very good game, saving numerous chances that were goal bound. Without his endeavours the game would probably been over by the break after saving goal efforts from Dai Cole, Llifon Howell and Huw Meredith.

Maesglas and Bargod went into the break without any goals between them, the first half was played in good spirit and even though there were some tough tackles going in referee Alan Jenkins kept the cards to his chest. Blues lost Llifon Howell at the break due to commitments elsewhere, and he was replaced with Wyn Morgan, who showed what he is capable of, the change though disrupted the Blues as manager Paul Hope switched some players around, with Richard Evans moving to left back, Matthew Smith to centre half and Rhys Davies to Llifon Howells' position on the right of the front line. Morgan teamed up with young Blues man of the match Jack Davies who is starting to show some excellent qualities, Davies setting up some good chances throughout the afternoon.

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes of the second half, a good move which kicked off with young Davies near the half way line his sweeping pass was met by Rhys Davies, he passed back into Jack Davies’ stride and Davies quickly fed Huw Meredith who was ten yards out and smashed the ball into the net, the Bargod keeper got a hand to the shot, but there was too much power on the ball. This seemed to deflate the home side and lifted the Blues who went on to create further good opportunities, but once again the Bargod side can be thankful to their keeper. The game was a deserved win for Maesglas and keeping a clean sheet was another plus point after conceding some sloppy goals in previous games.

Bargod can hold their heads high too after such a good display, they also had a couple of regulars missing too, but so long as they stick to playing good football and beat the better sides who seem to leading the way in their division then promotion is in their hands.

Maesglas are back to league duties next week where they travel to Llandysul who will be no push over. |
